【用法】
「限り」は感情を表す形容詞と共に、「イ形/ナ形+限りだ」などの形で、その感情を強調するために使われます。

【英語】
When the word "kagiri" is used with an adjective expressing emotion in the form of "Adj + kagiri da" etc., , it is used to emphasize the emotion.

【文法解説】Grammar point ：

「Adj＋限りだ」の「Adj」には感情を表す形容詞が入り、その感情の程度が甚だしいことを示します。よく使われる語には以下のようなものがあります。

＜よく使われる語＞

寂しい、悲しい、嬉しい、喜ばしい、残念な、羨ましい、恥ずかしい、心強い、頼もしい、etc.

1. 相続そうぞくで１億円おくえんももらえるとは、羨うらやましい限りだ。
（≒とても羨ましい）
I am very envious that he will receive 100 million yen from his inheritance.

2. 彼かれが会社かいしゃを辞やめてしまうなんて、残念ざんねんな限りだ。
（≒とても残念だ）
It is such a pity that he/she is leaving the company.

その他の形

「Adj＋限りだ」以外にも、「Adj＋限りです」「Adj＋限りでございます」なども同じ意味で使われます。基本的に述語形容詞と共に使われることがほとんどです。

3. やっと夢ゆめを叶かなえることができて、嬉うれしい限りです。
I am so happy to finally be able to fulfill my dream.

4. 彼かれが政界せいかいを引退いんたいするとは、誠まことに寂さびしい限りでございます。
I am truly saddened to hear that he is retiring from politics.

接続 formation

イ形 + 限りだ
（嬉しい限りだ、悲しい限りだ）

イ形 + 限りだ
（光栄な限りだ、悲しい限りだ）

※基本的には形容詞に接続しますが、「驚く限りだ」のように動詞辞書形に接続して使われる場合もあります。

V（辞書形） + 限りだ
（驚く限りだ、あきれる限りだ）
