文法-意味 grammar meaning

～ ならいざ知らず / ～はいざ知らず

【例文】

10年前ねんまえならいざ知らず、今いまや高齢者こうれいしゃでもスマホを使つかいこなしている。
I don’t know what is like 10 years ago, but now even the elderly are familiar with the use of smart phones.

他人たにんはいざ知らず、家族かぞくに頼たのめば少すこしばかりのお金かねぐらい借かりれるだろう。
I don't know about strangers, but if I ask my family for help, I can at least borrow a little bit of money.

【意味】
～ならともかく、
～ならどうだかわからないが、
～なら可能性があるかもしれないが、

【用法】
「～ならともかく/～ならどうだかわからないが/～なら可能性があるかもしれないが」と後件とは別の場合に言及しながら、話し手の考え・判断・推測などを述べる時に使われます。

【英語】 
" ~ naraizashirazu/waizashirazu"   is used to state the speaker's thoughts, judgment, or speculation while mentioning a case different from what comes the latter part, like "I don't know if ~, but/I don't care about ~, but/ It might be possible if ~, but"

・赤あかの他人たにんならいざ知らず、親友しんゆうの頼たのみですら断ことわるとは彼かれは優やさしさの欠片かけらもない奴やつだ。
I don't care if it's request from a stranger, but to refuse even his best friend's request, he is a man without a shred of gentleness.

・20年前ねんまえならいざ知らず、今いまのテレビでそんな発言はつげんをして許ゆるされるわけがない。
I don't know if it was 20 years ago, but there is no way you would be allowed to make such a statement on TV today.

・素人しろうとならいざ知らず、プロのあなたがそんな基本的きほんてきなミスを犯おかすなんて信しんじられない。
It might happen to an amateur, but I can't believe that you, a professional, would make such a basic mistake.

・東京とうきょうや大阪おおさかなどの都会とかいならいざ知らず、こんな辺鄙へんぴな片田舎かたいなかでは車くるまのない生活せいかつは考かんがえられない。
I don't know about cities like Tokyo or Osaka, but life without a car is unthinkable in such a remote, rural area.

・殺人事件さつじんじけんや強盗事件ごうとうじけんならいざ知らず、こんな小ちいさな事件じけんが全国ぜんこくニュースで取とり扱あつかわれるとは。
It's possible if it was a murder or a robbery, but I never thought that such a small incident would be treated in the national news.

～はいざしらず

・外国がいこくではいざ知らず、日本にほんでは電車でんしゃの車内しゃないでの通話つうわはマナー違反いはんとされる。
I don't know about other countries, but in Japan, talking on a train car is considered a breach of etiquette.

・遠とおい将来しょうらいはいざ知らず、ここ10年ねんのうちに景気けいきが回復かいふくすることはないように思おもえる。
It might be possible in the distant future, but it does not seem likely that the economy will recover within the next decade.

・大金持おおがねもちの家庭かていはいざ知らず、その当時とうじ一般家庭いっぱんかていで牛肉ぎゅうにくを食たべられることなど稀まれであった。
I don't know about rich families, but at that time it was rare for an average family to eat beef.

・史実しじつはいざ知らず、少すくなくともその古ふるい本ほんには彼かれが起おこした数々かずかずの奇跡きせきについて詳細しょうさいに書かかれている。
I don't know about the historical facts, but at least that old book details the many miracles he has performed.

・40年前ねんまえはいざ知らず、今いまの時代じだいにお見合みあい結婚けっこんをする人ひとはかなり少数しょうすうである。
I do not know what it was like 40 years ago, but in this day and age, very few people enter into arranged marriages.
