【意味】
～続けて、その変化が止まらない

【用法】
状態の変化を表す動詞と使用し、「その変化がどんどん進んで、かつ、その変化が止まる様子がない」と言いたい時に使います。その変化が悪いと考えられる場合に使われることが多い。

【英語】
”~ippouda" is used with verbs that describe change, when you want to say that the change is progressing rapidly and shows no signs of stopping. It is often used when the change is considered to be bad.

【Grammar point】

■ 使い方

状態の変化を表す動詞と一緒に使います。状態の変化を表す動詞とは、例えば「増える・減る・太る・痩せる・広まる」等です。また「形容詞＋なる」の形もよく使われます。

1. 運動うんどうしてないので、私わたしの体重たいじゅうは増ふえる一方です。〇
Because I don't exercise, my weight is only going up.

2. ささいなことでケンカして以来いらい、彼かれらの仲なかは悪わるくなる一方です。〇
Ever since they had a fight over a trivial matter, their relationship has been deteriorating.

3. ~~彼かれはたくさんお酒さけを飲のむ一方です~~。✖

■ 悪い変化

その変化が悪いと考えられる場合に使われることの方が圧倒的に多いです。良い変化に使われることは稀です。

4. 彼かれの病状びょうじょうは悪わるくなる一方だ。〇
His condition is only getting worse.

5. 彼かれの病状びょうじょうは良よくなる一方だ。✖
His condition is only getting better.

※例文５も、病状が良くなることを悪いと思っている特殊な場合には使えます。
