【例文】

①この仕事しごとはお金かねをたくさん稼かせげる一方で、プライベートな時間じかんはほとんどない。
While this job makes a lot of money, on the other hand, it leaves very little time for personal life.

②彼かれは日本語にほんごを勉強べんきょうする一方で、中国語ちゅうごくごも勉強べんきょうしている。
While studying Japanese, he is also learning Chinese.

【意味・用法】
①「良い事」と「悪い事」などといった二つの物事を対照的に述べたいときに使われます。

②異なる二つのことを平行して行っていると言いたいときに使われます。

【英語】 ~, on the other hand … / while ~
①”~ippoude” is used to describe two things in contrast, such as a good thing and a bad thing.

②”~ippoude" is used to describe doing two separate activities concurrently.

■ 「一方で」の「で」は省略される場合もあります。

■ その他の使われ方

「一方、その一方」は、例文１,２のように接続詞として文頭に使うこともできます

1. 今回こんかいのコロナの影響えいきょうによりたくさんの企業きぎょうが倒産とうさんした。一方、新あたらしく生うまれたビジネスもある。
Many companies have gone bankrupt as a result of the Corona disaster. On the other hand, some new businesses have been born.

2. 私わたしは学生時代がくせいじだい、勉強べんきょうはあまりしなかった。その一方、部活動ぶかつどうには本気ほんきになって取とり組くんだ。
When I was a student, I did not study much. On the other hand, I took my club activities seriously.

また、「一方では～。他方では～」という言い方もあります。

3. 一方ではもちろん挑戦ちょうせんしたい気持きもちもあったが、他方たほうでは心こころの中なかにそれを恐おそれている自分じぶんがいた。
On the one hand, Of course, I wanted to take on the challenge, but on the other hand, a part of me was afraid of it in my heart.

用法１：二つの対照的なことを述べる

・国内こくないでの売うり上あげが落おちる一方で、海外かいがいでの売うり上あげはこの一年間いちねんかん好調こうちょうだった。
While domestic sales have declined, overseas sales have been strong for the past year.

・この商品しょうひんは男性だんせいに人気にんきな一方で、女性じょせいからの評判ひょうばんはあまり良よくない。
While this product is popular among men, it is not well received by women.

・その国くにでは、お金持かねもちへの税金ぜいきんが優遇ゆうぐうされる一方で、貧まずしい人ひとへの支援しえんは限かぎられていた。
In that country, taxes were favored for the rich, while support for the poor was limited.

・彼かれは会社かいしゃでは厳格げんかくな上司じょうしである一方で、家庭かていでは子供こどもに相当そうとう甘あまいらしい。

用法２：同時に

・あの企業きぎょうはIT企業きぎょうである一方で、農業のうぎょうビジネスにも参入さんにゅうしている。
While that company is an IT company, it is also in the agricultural business.

・彼かれはよし子こさんと付つき合あう一方で、さとみさんともデートをしていた。
While he was dating Yoshiko, he was also dating Satomi.

・彼かれは大学だいがくで英語えいごを教おしえる一方で、ボランティアでドイツ語ごも教おしえている。
He teaches English at the university and also teaches German as a volunteer.

・あの人ひとは有名ゆうめいレストランのシェフである一方、テレビにも出演しゅつえんしている。
That man is not only a chef at a famous restaurant, but he also appears on TV.
