【例文】

①私わたしは幼おさない頃ころ、祖父母そふぼの下もとで育そだちました。
As a child, I grew up with my grandparents.

②彼かれらは劣悪れつあくな環境かんきょうの下もとで、労働ろうどうを強しいられている。
They are forced to work under poor conditions.

【意味・用法】
①「A（指導や世話をしてくれる人）の影響下でBする」という意味で使われます。

②「A（環境や条件）の中でBする」という意味で使います。

【英語】
①”~nomotode" is used in the sense of "doing B under the influence of A (the person who provides instruction or care).

②”~nomotode" is used in the sense of "doing B under A (environment or condition).

【文法解説】Grammar point:

「～のもとで」の「で」は省略されることもあります。

1. すばらしい先輩せんぱいの下（で）、働はたらけたことを光栄こうえいに思おもいます。
I feel honored to have been able to work under such a wonderful senior.

① A（指導や世話をしてくれる人）の影響下で

「AのもとでBする」の「Ｂ」には「育つ・成長する・勉強する・研究する・練習する・学ぶ」といった動詞がよく使われる。

・あの人ひとは、世界せかいでも５本ほんの指ゆびに入はいるシェフの下で料理りょうりを学まなんでいた。
That man had studied cooking under one of the top five chefs in the world.

・あの名高なだかい教授きょうじゅの下で研究けんきゅうができたらどんなに最高さいこうだろうか。
How great it would be to be able to do research under that renowned professor.

・厳きびしい両親りょうしんの下で私わたしは育そだちました。
I grew up with strict parents.

・あんな上司じょうしの下で働はたらき続つづけなきゃいけないなら、会社かいしゃを辞やめた方ほうがましだ。
If I have to keep working under that boss, I'd rather quit the company.

・師匠ししょうの下で落語らくごの勉強べんきょうを長年ながねん続つづけている。
He has been studying rakugo for many years under his master.

② A（環境や条件）の中でBする

「AのもとでBする」の「A」には「～状況・～環境・～条件」といった言葉が良く使われます。

・このスマホは－50℃という厳きびしい環境かんきょうの下でも正常せいじょうに動作どうさする。
This smartphone can work properly even under the harsh environment of -50℃.

・このような会社かいしゃの経営状況けいえいじょうきょうの下では、辞やめていく社員しゃいんを責せめることはできない。
Under such a company's business situation, we cannot blame the employees for quitting.

・彼かれは恵めぐまれない環境かんきょうの下でも、人知ひとしれず努力どりょくを続つづけていた。
He had been working hard without being noticed, despite his disadvantaged circumstances.

・我わが社しゃに圧倒的あっとうてきに不利ふりな条件じょうけんの下、今回こんかいの契約けいやくは結むすばれた。
The contract was signed under conditions that were overwhelmingly unfavorable to our company.

・医師いしのな指導しどうの下で適切てきせつな治療ちりょうをつづければ、この病気びょうきは必かならず治なおる。
With proper treatment under the guidance of a doctor, this disease can be cured.
