～ 間/～間に
【例文】
①私が出かけている間に、荷物が届いた。
While I was out, a package arrived.
②休みの間、一度も家から出なかった。
I did not leave the house even once during the vacation.
【意味・用法】
①「～ 間に」は、後ろで述べる行為や出来事が、「～」の期間中に起こったと言いたいときに使われます。
②「～ 間」は、後ろで述べる行為や出来事が、「～」の期間中継続していることや、習慣的に続いていることを言いたいときに使われます。
【英語】
while～, during~
① "~aidani" is used when you want to say that the action or event stated after "aidani" occurred during the period of "~".
②"~aida" is used when you want to say that the action or event stated after "aida" is continuing throughout the period of "~" or that it is continuing habitually.

「間」と「間に」の違い
「X 間に Y」の「Y」には「X」の期間中のどこかで起きる行為や出来事が入ります。
「X 間 Y」の「Y」には「X」の期間中ずっと継続していることや、「X」の期間中習慣的に続けていることが入ります。
1. 私が寝ている間に、兄は出かけた。〇

2. 私が寝ている間、彼はテレビを見ていた。〇

読み方
このページで説明している「～間/間に」は基本的に「あいだ/あいだに」と読みますが、「～間に」と「に」が接続する場合、「間」は「ま」と読まれる場合もあります。

位置的な「間に」
「間に」は時間的なことだけでなく、物事の位置を示すためにも使われます。
