～くらい / ～ぐらい（程度）

【例文】

①二年にねんぐらい東京とうきょうに住すんでいました。
I lived in Tokyo for about two years.

②私わたしの部屋へやは、この部屋へやぐらいの広ひろさです。
My room is about the size of this one.

【意味】
① だいたい～
② ～と同じ程度の

【用法】
①「数量詞」に接続して使われ、それが大体の数量であることを示す。
※数量詞：一杯、二日、三人、四本、etc.

② 何かの程度がだいたい「～」と同じである、比較となる例や比喩を出して説明するために使われる。

【英語】approximately ~ / about the same as ~
①It is used in the form "quantifier + kurai/gurai" to indicate that the quantity is approximate.

② "~ kurai/gurai” is used to illustrate that something is roughly equivalent to "~" in degree by providing examples or figurative comparisons.

■「くらい」と「ぐらい」の違い

現代ではどちらも区別なく使われます。

■「ほど」と「くらい」の違い

「ほど」は「くらい」はに比べ硬い表現で、多くの場合互いに言い換え可能です。ただし以下の場合は、言い換えることができません。

言い換え出来ない場合

①「ほど」は、「火曜日」「８時」「３月９日」などの特定の時点を表す語一緒に使うことはできません。

②「AはBほど～ない」の文型で使われる「ほど」を「くらい」に言い換えることはできません。

③ 軽視の意味で使われる「くらい」も「ほど」に言い換えることができません。

1. ３時じ（ほど）ぐらいに集合しゅうごうしましょう。
Let's meet around 3:00 p.m.

2. 私わたしは彼かれ（~~くらい~~）ほど足が速はやくない。
I am not as fast as he is.

①の用法

・昔むかし３年間ねんかんぐらいアメリカに住すんでいました。
I used to live in the US for about 3 years.

・この容器ようきにだいだい５リットルぐらいの水みずが入はいっています。
This container contains approximately 5 liters of water.

②の用法

・東京とうきょうはアテネと同じぐらいの緯度いどに位置いちしている。
Tokyo is located at about the same latitude as Athens.

・彼かれの英語能力えいごのうりょくはだいたいあなたぐらいのレベルだ。
His level of English is about the same as yours.

・逃にげて行いった犯人はんにんは私わたしぐらいの身長しんちょうだったと思おもいます。
I think the culprit who ran away was about my height.

・湯舟ゆぶねに浸つかかっても熱あつさを感かんじないくらいの温度おんどで、半身浴はんしんよくをしています。
I take a half-body bath at such a temperature that I do not feel the heat when I soak in the tub.

・私わたしは試合しあいに負まけて、夜よる眠ねむれなくなるくらい悔くやしい想おもいをした。
I lost the game and felt so frustrated with myself that I couldn't sleep at night.

・昨日きのうは体からだが溶とけてしまうくらい暑あつい日ひだった。
Yesterday was a hot day, so hot that my body melted.

・プレゼンに失敗しっぱいして、穴あながあったら入はいりたいぐらい恥はずかしかった。
I failed in my presentation and was so embarrassed that if there was a hole, I would go in it.

・毎日まいにち通かよってもいいぐらい、あそこの店みせのカレーはとてもおいしい。
The curry there is so good that I could go there every day.

・普通ふつうの人ひとが食たべられないくらい辛からい料理りょうりは、料理りょうりとは呼よべない。
A dish that is so spicy that normal people can't eat it can't be called a dish.

・友達ともだちが結婚けっこんするという話はなしを聞きいて、目めが飛とび出でるくらい驚おどろいた。
When I heard that my friend was getting married, I was so surprised that my eyes popped out of my head.
