【例文】
玄関の鍵をかけないまま、出かけてしまった。
I left the front door unlocked and went out.
【意味】
～状態で
【用法】
普通起きるはずのことが起きていない状態や、すべき行為がされていない「～」という状態で、何かが起こった/何かをしたと言いたいときに使われます。
【英語】
”~mama" is used when you want to say that something happened or did something in the state of “~” where no change that would normally supposed to happen or no action that should have been done has taken place.

■ 使い方
「～まま」は、普通起きるはずのことや、すべき行為がされていない「～」という状態を示します。
起きるはずのことが起きない状態で
1. 彼は目を開けたまま寝ている。〇
※寝る時には目を閉じるという普通は起きる変化が起きていない。
He's sleeping with his eyes open.
2. 彼は目を閉じたまま寝ている。✖
※目を閉じて寝るのは普通なので、このような言い方はしない。
He's sleeping with his eyes closed.
3. 彼から連絡がないまま一週間たった。〇
※「連絡が来る」という期待されることが起きていない状態。
A week went by without contact from him.
すべき行為がされない状態で
4. 必要な書類を机に置いたまま出かけてしまった。
※書類を持って出かけるというすべき行為をしない状態で。
I left the necessary documents on my desk and went out.
■ ～ままで/～まんま
「ままで」も同じように使われます。また、カジュアルな会話では「まんま」を使うこともあります。
4. テレビをつけたままで出かけた。
I went out with the TV on.
5. コンタクトを着けたまんま寝てしまった。
I fell asleep with my contacts on.
