物事の様子や状況から、推量される事を述べる時に使われます。

”-mitai" is used to describe what can be inferred from the appearance of things or circumstances.

【Grammar point】

■「みたい」と「よう」の違い

「～よう」も同じ推量の意味で使うことができます。ただし「～よう」は「～みたい」に比べ硬い表現になります。

1. 彼女かのじょはまだ、別わかれた彼氏かれしのことが忘わすれられないみたい/ようです。
She seems to still be unable to forget the boyfriend she broke up with.

■「みたい」と「そう」の違い

「そう」は見たり、聞いたりしたことから直観的に感じたことを述べる場合に使われます。それに対し「みたい」は得た状況を根拠に推察・判断する場合に使われます。

3. このケーキとってもおいしそう。
This cake looks so delicious.
（目で見て直観的に）

4. ケーキを食たべてる彼女かのじょの表情ひょうじょうからすると、そのケーキはとてもおいしいみたいだ。
Judging by the expression on her face as she ate the cake, it seemed to be very tasty.
（情報を根拠に推察・判断）

■「みたい」と「らしい」の違い

「らしい」も状況などから推量されることを述べる場合に使うこともありますが、自分が積極的な行動をとって情報を取得した場合には使われません。

5. あれっ車くるまが動うごかない。どうやらガソリンが無なくなったみたいだ。〇
（無くなったらしい。〇）
Oh no, the car won't start. It seemed to have run out of gasoline.

7. どうやら体調たいちょうは良よいみたいですね。〇
（~~良いらしいですね~~。✖）
It seems that you are feeling better.

＜修理しようと時計を調べている場面で＞

8. どうやらここの部分ぶぶんが壊こわれているみたいです。〇
（~~壊れているらしい~~。✖）
It appears that this part is broken.

※ナ形と名詞の非過去肯定：だ

・最近さいきん隣となりの部屋へやが静しずかだから、多分たぶんお隣となりさんは引ひっ越こしたみたいだね。
Recently, the room next door has been quiet, so it seems that the neighbor has probably moved out.

・参加者さんかしゃリストに彼かれの名前なまえが合あったらから、彼かれも明日あした来くるみたいだね。
I saw his name on the list of participants, so it seems he's coming tomorrow.

・彼かれは、その新入社員しんにゅうしゃいんの振ふる舞まいに我慢がまんできなかったみたいだ。
It seems he couldn't stand the way the new guy was behaving.

・彼かれはどうやら先さきに帰かえったみたいですね。
He apparently left first.

・家いえには誰だれもいないみたいです。さっき電話でんわしたら誰だれも出でなかったので。
There doesn't seem to be anyone at home. I called earlier and no one answered.

・さっきから顔色かおいろが良よくないし、彼かれは体調たいちょうが悪わるいみたいです。
He's been looking pale for a while now and he doesn't seem to be feeling well.

・現場げんばの状況じょうきょうからすると、犯人はんにんはそう遠とおくに行いっていないみたいだ。
Judging from the scene, it looks like the culprit didn't get very far.

・あの喜よろこびようからすると、彼かれは試験しけんに合格ごうかくしたみたいですね。
From the looks of his joy, it looks like he passed the test.

・うちの子こがだいぶお世話せわになっているみたいで、ありがとうございます。
My child seems to have been much taken care of, so thank you.

・彼かれが浮気うわきしてるみたいなんだけど、どうしよう。
It seems like he's cheating on me, but I don't know what to do.

・彼かれは今いま忙いそがしいみたいなので、私わたしが代かわりにやりましょうか？
He seems to be busy right now, so shall I do it for you?

・彼かれの顔かおからすると、試合しあいに負まけたことが相当そうとう悔くやしかったみたいだ。
From the look on his face, it seemed that he couldn't quite believe that he had lost the game.
