【例文】

①マンガやらゲームやらで若わかい時ときの貴重きちょうな時間じかんを無駄むだにしてほしくない。
I don't want them to waste their precious time when they are young with things like comic books and video games.

②あんな弱よわい相手あいてに負まけてしまって、悔くやしいやら、自分じぶんが情なさけないやらで涙なみだが出でてきた。
I was so frustrated and ashamed, kind of mixed emotions, about losing to such a weak opponent, that I started to cry.

【意味】
①～とか～とか
②～のような～のような

【用法】
①「A とか B とか」と同じように、「A」と「B」を何かの例として提示するときに使われます。

②「A」と「B」のどちらとも言えないような複雑な感情、または二つの感情が入り乱れたような感情を表すために使われます。

【英語】
①”A yara B yara" , like " "A toka B toka", is used to present "A" and "B" as examples of something.

②"A yara B yara" is also used to express a complex emotion that cannot be described as either one or the other, or a mixture of two emotions. The words expressing emotion are placed at "A" and "B."

【Grammar point】

■ 用法①

「A」と「B」を何かの例として提示するときに使われます。特に、そのことが大変だったり、煩雑だったり、そのことを不満に思う気持ちがあるときなどに使われることが多いです。

1. 資料しりょうの作成さくせいやら、仕入しいれ先さきへの電話でんわやらで、午前中ごぜんちゅうは忙いそがしかった。
(≒資料の作成とか仕入れ先の電話とかで）
I was busy in the morning doing things like preparing documents and making phone calls to suppliers.

2. 彼かれの部屋へやには飲のみかけのペットボトルやら、腐くさった弁当べんとうやらがそこら中じゅうに置おいてある。
(≒腐ったペットボトルとか腐った弁当とかが）
In his room, there are plastic bottles that he has been drinking out of and rotten lunch boxes all over the place.

■～やら何やら

「B」に「何」を入れた「A やら何やら」という表現もあります。

3. あの同僚どうりょうは仕事中しごとちゅうにも関かかわらず、趣味しゅみやら何やら仕事しごとと関係かんけいないことを聞きいてくる。
That coworker would ask me about hobbies and other things that had nothing to do with work, even though I was at work.

■ 用法②

どちらとも言えないような複雑な感情や、または二つの感情が入り乱れたような感情などを表すためにも使われます。「A」「B」にはそれぞれ感情を表す言葉が入ります。

4. こんな簡単かんたんなミスをしてしまうなんて、恥はずかしいやら、情なさけないやら。
It feel like being embarrassed and disappointed that I would make such a simple mistake.

用法①：

・最近さいきんは残業ざんぎょうやら子供こどもの送おくり迎むかえやらで忙いそがしくて、全然ぜんぜん飲のみに行いっていない。
Lately, I've been so busy doing things like working overtime and picking up and dropping off my kids that I haven't gone out for drinks at all.

・その団体だんたいがべーべキューをした場所ばしょには、空あき缶かんやらコンビニの袋ふくろやらがそこら中じゅうに放置ほうちされていた。
In the area where the group had barbecued, things like empty cans and convenience store bags were left all over the place.

・配偶者はいぐうしゃVISAの申請しんせいのために、収入しゅうにゅうの証明しょうめいやら、婚姻関係こんいんかんけいの証明しょうめいやらでいろいろな書類しょるいを提出ていしゅつしないといけなかった。
I had to submit various documents to apply for a spousal VISA, such as proof of income and proof of marital status.

・掃除そうじやら洗濯せんたくやらをしていたら、一日いちにちがあっという間まにすぎてしまった。
The day flew by as I was doing things like cleaning and laundry.

・給料きゅうりょうから社会保険料しゃかいほけんりょうやら、税金ぜいきんやらが引ひかれているので、実際じっさいに手てにするお金かねは思おもったよりも少すくない。
Since social insurance premiums, taxes, etc. are deducted from my salary, the money I actually get is less than I thought.

・昨日きのうは買かい物ものやら何やらで、一日中いちにちじゅうでかけていた。
I was out all day yesterday, shopping and other stuff.

・年末ねんまつの時期じきというのは、飲のみ会かいやら何やらで出でていくお金かねが多おおい。
At the end of the year, there is a lot of money going out for drinks and other things.

用法②：複雑な感情

・彼かれに試合しあいで負まけた日ひは、悔くやしいやら、自分じぶんが情なさけないやらで、夜よるも寝ねられなかった。
The day I lost to him in a match, I couldn't sleep at night because I was so frustrated and disappointed in myself.

・ここまで私わたしのためにしてくださって、ありがたいやら、申もうし訳わけないやら。
I am both grateful and sorry, kind of mixed emotions, for what you have done for me so far.

・息子むすこが大学だいがくに通かようために家いえを出でて一人暮ひとりぐらしをすることになって、嬉うれしいやら、寂さびしいやら、ちょっと複雑ふくざつな感情かんじょうだ。
I'm both happy and sad, kind of mixed emotions, that my son will be leaving home to attend college and live on his own.
