意味・用法
「A ないで B」は、「A が行われていない状態で Bする」という意味で使われます。
英語 without ~, instead of ~
“A naide B” means that action B is performed without doing action A.

▷ 注意すべき点
接続助詞「～て」には、色々な用法があり、「て」の前に否定を用いる形は「V なくて」と「V ないで」があります。そのどちらを使うかは用法によって異なります。
▷ 用法①：付帯状況
「A ないで B」は、「A が行われてない状況で B する」という意味で使われます。
1. 鍵をかけないで出かけた。〇
鍵をかけなくて出かけた。✖
I left the house without locking the door.
▷ 用法②：方法
「A という方法を用いないで B する」という意味で使われます。
2. 彼はスプーンを使わないで、そのカレーを食べた。〇
スプーンを使わなくて～✖
He ate the curry without using a spoon.
▷ 用法③：並列（代替）
「A」をしないことと、「B」をすることを並列的に行うと言いたい場合にも使われます。
3. 嘘ばかり言わないで、本当のことを言いなさい。
Stop telling lies and tell the truth.
4. バットを見ないで、ボールをしっかり見るのが大事です。
It’s important to focus on the ball, not the bat.

原因・理由
基本的に原因・理由を表したい時は「ないで」ではなく「なくて」が使われますが、後ろに「がっかりした、困った、驚いた」など話し手の感情や評価を述べる場合には「ないで」が使われる場合もあります。
ただし、その場合でも「ないで」を使うのを不自然だと感じる日本人もいます。
