【用法】
「～してはいけない」と禁止の意を表したり、また「～べきではない」と忠告や教訓を説くときに使われることことがあります。禁止事項を知らせる看板や、故事成語や格言の一部として使われるという例外を除き、現代において使われる頻度は多くない表現。
【英語】
" ~bekarazu" is used to express a prohibition, "Don't do ~," or to instruct on the right conduct, " You should not do ~." With the exception of signs announcing prohibitions and the use as part of an idiom, proverb, or saying, the expression is rarely used today.

①看板などでの禁止事項の表示
「～べからず」は現代でほとんど使われなくなった表現ですが、以下のような、禁止事項が書いてある看板等で使用されていることがあります。

1. 車両（車輌）入るべからず。
（＝車両は入ってはいけません）
（＝車両は入らないこと）
Vehicles are not allowed to enter.
②格言、故事成語、慣用句など
「～べからず」は古い表現ですが、「働かざるもの食うべからず」のような格言、故事成語、慣用句などの一部として現代でも使われる場合があります。
2. 働かざるもの食うべからず。
（＝働かない人は食べてはいけない。）
（＝働かない人は食べるべきではない。）
