【例文】

彼女かのじょは恐怖きょうふのあまり、泣なき出だしてしまった。
She was so scared that she started to cry.

【意味】
～すぎて

【用法】
「～」の程度が甚だしい故に何かが起こった（何かをした）と言いたい時に使われます。

【英語】
”~amari/amarini " is used when you want to say that something happened (did something) because of the extreme degree of “~”.

■ 使われ方

「～あまり（に）」の「～」は後ろで述べることの理由です。特に感情や感覚を表す言葉と一緒に使われることが多い。

1. 彼女かのじょは嬉うれしさのあまり、彼かれに抱だきついた。
She was so happy that she hugged him.

2. 彼女かのじょは痛いたさのあまり、泣なき叫さけんだ。
It was so painful that she cried out.

V（辞書形）/イ形/ナ形/Nの + あまり（に）

※名詞の場合「あまりの N に」という形も使われます。

・その景色けしきのあまりの美うつくししさに、人々ひとびとは言葉ことばを失うしなった。
The sheer beauty of the scenery left people speechless.

・驚おどろきのあまり飲のんでいたジュースを噴ふき出してしまった。
I was so surprised that I spit out the juice I had been drinking.

・彼かれは緊張きんちょうのあまり、次つぎのセリフを忘わすれてしまったようだ。
He was so nervous that he seemed to have forgotten his next line.

・その共犯者きょうはんしゃは罪悪感ざいあくかんのあまりに嘘うそを付つき通とおせず犯行はんこうを自白じはくした。

The accomplice felt so guilty that he could not keep up the lie and confessed to the crime.

・その子このおじいちゃんは、孫まごがかわいいあまりに何なんでも買かい与あたえてしまう。
Her grandfather loves his grandchildren so much that he buys them everything he can.

・彼かれは疲つかれのあまり、家いえに帰かえった途端とたん汚よごれた服ふくを着替きがえもせず寝ねてしまった。
He was so tired that he fell asleep without changing his dirty clothes as soon as he got home.

・タンスに小指こゆびをぶつけてしまい、痛いたさのあまり大声おおごえを出だしてしまった。
I hit my little toe on the dresser and it hurt so badly that I screamed out in pain.

・突然とつぜんの再会さいかいに彼かれはうれしさのあまり、声こえに詰つまってしまった。
He was so happy to see her again so suddenly that he choked on his voice.

・一人ひとり暮ぐらしの夜よるは寂さみしさのあまり誰だれかに電話でんわしてしまうこともある。
At night when people live alone, sometimes they are so lonely that they call someone.

・忙いそがしさのあまり、子供こどもの授業じゅぎょう参観日さんかんびのことを忘わすれてしまった。
I've been so busy that I forgot about my children's class visitation day.

・その子こは空腹くうふくのあまり、店先みせさきにおいてあるパンを盗ぬすんでしまった。
The child was so hungry that he stole a loaf of bread from the store.

・あまりの空腹くうふくに、今いますぐ倒たおれてしまいそうだ。
I'm so hungry, I feel like I'm going to collapse right now.

・現地げんちの物価ぶっかのあまりの高たかさに、彼かれは驚おどろいた。
He was surprised at how high the local cost of living was.
