【例文】

あまりに（も）歯はが痛いたいので、歯医者はいしゃに行いくことにした。
My tooth hurt so much that I decided to go to the dentist.

【意味】
とても

【用法】
物事の程度が甚だしいことを強調して言うために使われる。特に、理由を述べる節の中で使われることが多い。

【英語】so ~ (that...) / too ~
”~amarini" emphasizes that the degree of something is excessive and often used, particularly in clauses that explain reasons. "~amarinimo" is also used in the same sense.

【Grammar point】

■ 間違えやすい文型

・「あまり～ない」→ 程度がそれほどでもない

・「あまりに（も）～」→ 程度が甚だしい

1. あのカレーはあまり辛からくない。
That curry is not very spicy.

2. あのカレーはあまりに辛からかったので、半分はんぶん残のこしてしまった。
That curry was so spicy that I ended up leaving half of it uneaten.

■ 良く使われる形

この文型は「ので/から」など、理由を述べる節の中でよく使われます。。

3. 今いまの仕事しごとがあまりに大変たいへんなので、転職てんしょくを考かんがえています。
My current job is so hard that I am considering finding a new one.

4. あまりにも遅おそいから、事故じこにでもあったのかと心配しんぱいしたよ。
You were so late that I worried if something like an accident had happened to you

■ 肯定的？否定的？

何らかの否定的なことを言う場合に使われることが多いですが、例文7のように肯定的なことを言うためにも使われます。

5. 息子むすこの部屋へやがあまりに汚きたないので、代かわりに掃除そうじした。
My son's room was so dirty that I cleaned it instead.

6. あのドラマがあまりに面白おもしろいので、３話わ続つづけて見みた。
I watched three episodes in a row because that drama was so good.

■その他の言い方

・カジュアルな口語では、「あんまりに（も）」も使われます。

・漢字で書く場合は「余りに（も）」と書きますが、ひらがなで表記されることが一般的です。

接続 formation

副詞的に後ろで述べられる動詞や形容詞を修飾するため使われます。

・彼かれの作つくる料理りょうりがあまりにおいしいので、いつも食たべすぎてしまう。
I always eat too much because the food he cooks is so delicious.

・彼女かのじょがあまりにしつこく聞きくので、本当ほんとうのことを話はなしてしまった。
I told her the truth because she asked me so insistently.

・彼かれの言いっていることはあまりに筋すじが通とおってなさすぎる。
What he’s saying makes absolutely no sense.

・花火大会はなびたいかいに行いったのだが、あまりに人ひとが多おおすぎて途中とちゅうで帰かえってきた。
We went to a fireworks festival, but there were too many people and we left halfway through.

・隣となりの部屋へやのテレビの音おとがあまりにうるさかったので、文句もんくを言いいに行いった。
The TV in the next room was so loud that I went to complain about it.

・15歳さいという年齢ねんれいは、一人暮ひとりぐらしさせるにはあまりにも若わかすぎる。
Fifteen years old is far too young to let them live alone.

・あまりにも幸運こううんなことが起おこり続つづけるので、これは夢ゆめじゃないかと疑うたがってしまう。
So much good fortune keeps happening that I suspect this might be a dream.

・彼女かのじょはあまりにも世間知せけんしらずすぎて、話はなしているといつもびっくりする。
She is so naive that I am always surprised when I talk to her.

・その少年しょうねんの作品さくひんがあまりにも上手じょうずにできすぎているので、教師きょうしたちは親おやが手伝てつだったに違ちがいないと思おもった。
The boy's work was so well done that the teachers thought his parents must have helped him.

・その映画えいががあまりにもつまらないので、途中とちゅうで映画館えいがかんを出でてしまった。
That movie was so boring that I left the theater halfway through.
