【文法解説】Grammar point 1：

　何か重要なことの前

「N＋に先立って」の「N」には、何等かの重要だったり、特別だったりすることが入ります。例文１のように、日常的なことについて時間関係として「N」の前だと言いたいだけ時には使われません。

1. 料理りょうりに先立って手てを洗あらってください。✖
Wash your hands before cooking.

　準備として、必要なこととして

また、「N＋に先立って」の後ろで述べることは「N」に必要なことや、準備などです。従って、例文２のような、全く関係のないことの時間関係を示すためだけには使えません。

2. イベントの開催かいさいに先立って、現地で大雨が降った。✖
Before that music event was to take place, heavy rain fell in the area.

【文法解説】Grammar point ２：

「～に先立って」の代わりに、「～に先立ち」や「～に先立ちまして」も同様の意味で使われます。「～に先立ちまして」はより丁寧な表現です。

3. 記念式典きねんしきてんの開始かいしに先立ち、山田様やまださまより一言ひとことご挨拶あいさつを頂いただきたいと思います。
Prior to the start of the commemorative ceremony, we would like to ask Mr. Yamada to say a few words.

4. 記念式典きねんしきてんの開始かいしに先立ちまして、山田様やまださまより一言ひとことご挨拶あいさつを頂いただきたいと思おもいます。
