【例文】

①川かわに沿って遊歩道ゆうほどうが整備せいびされている。
A walking trail has been established along the river.

②皆様みなさまの期待きたいに沿えるよう、努力どりょくしてまいります。
We will make every effort to meet your expectations.

【意味・用法】
①「川、線路、道といった、長く続いている物に平行して」という意味で使われます。

②「方針、期待、希望といった基準にするものから離れないように」という意味で使われます。

【英語】
①”~nisotte"is used to mean "along something” that is long and continuous, such as a river, railroad track, or road."

②”~nisotte" is also used to mean "not to depart from what one sets as a standard, such as a policy, expectation, or hope."

【文法解説】Grammar point 1：

「N+に沿って」は、「何等かの長い物と平行に」という意味で使われます。「N」に入る名詞の例としては以下のようなものがあげられます。

＜例＞
道に沿って、線路に沿って、川に沿って、点線に沿って、国境に沿って、岸に沿って、流れに沿って

(1) 点線てんせんに沿って切きり離はなしてください。
Separate along the dotted line.

「～に沿ったエリア」という意味では「N+沿い」という形も使われます。

(2) 線路せんろ沿いは、電車でんしゃの音おとがうるさいので住すみたくない。
I don't want to live along the railroad tracks because of the noise of the trains.

(3) 今日きょうは、犬いぬと川かわ沿いを散歩さんぽしました。
Today I took a walk along the river with my dog.

【文法解説】Grammar point 2

「N+に沿う」は、「基準になるものから離れないように」という意味でも使われます。「N」に入る名詞の例としては以下のようなものがあげられます。「沿う」は通常の動詞と同様に活用します。

希望に沿う、期待に沿う、要望に沿う、方針に沿う、指針に沿う、手順に沿う、

用法①

・海岸線かいがんせんに沿って10km南みなみに行いくと、港みなとがあります。
10 km south along the coastline is the harbor.

・このエリアは道路どうろに沿って、たくさんのポプラの木きが植うえられている。
This area has many poplar trees planted along the road.

・その少年しょうねんは線路せんろに沿って歩あるき続つづけた。
The boy continued walking along the tracks.

・尾根おねに沿ってにいつくつかの山小屋やまごやが点在てんざいしている。
Several huts are scattered along the ridge.

・この白線はくせんに沿って整列せいれつしてください。
Please align along this white line.

用法②

・お客様きゃくさまのご希望きぼうに沿えるよう、できるだけ努力どりょくいたします。
We will do our best to meet your expectations.

・政府せいふの指針ししんに沿うように、ルールが定さだめられた。
The rules were established to follow government guidelines.

・事前じぜんに定さだめられた手順てじゅんに沿って作業さぎょうを進すすめてください。
Please proceed according to the pre-defined procedures.

・このあと皆様みなさまにはそれぞれテーマに沿ったプレゼンをしてもらいます。
After this, each of you will be asked to give a presentation on your theme.

・資料しりょうに沿ってご説明せつめいさせていただきます。
