～ にかこつけて

【例文】

どうやらうちの旦那だんなは仕事しごとにかこつけて同僚どうりょうの女性じょせいと会あっているようだ。
Apparently, my husband is meeting with a female colleague in the name of work.

【意味】
～ということを言い訳にして
～を口実にして

【用法】

「～にかこつけて」は、本来は関連のない「N」を口実にして何かをすると言いたい時に使われます。

【英語】 
” ~nikakotsukete” is used when you want to say that someone does something under the pretext of an essentially unrelated "N."

Maybe my husband doesn't want to be in this house so much, so he tries to go out to on the pretext of running some errand or other.

・どうやら彼かれは仕事しごとにかこつけて取引先とりひきさきの女性社員じょせいしゃいんの連絡先れんらくさきを聞ききまくっているらしい。
It seems that he is asking around for the contact information of female employees of his business partners on the pretext of his work.

・彼かれはやたらとお祝いわいしようというが、本当ほんとうのところはただ単たんにお祝いわいにかこつけて酒さけが飲のみたいだけなんだろう。
He often says that we should celebrate, but I think he really just wants to have a drink in the name of celebration.

・業務ぎょうむにかこつけて私的してきなメールを送おくるのは十分じゅぶんセクハラに値あたいする行為こういだ。
Sending private e-mails in the name of business is enough to be considered sexual harassment.
