I think he would not give his permission, no matter who asked him to.

【用法】
「～ようが/ようと」は、後ろに述べることが、仮に「～」という条件があっても変わらないと言いたいときに使われる。

【英語】 even if ~
"~ youga/youto" is used to indicate that the statement following it remains unchanged, regardless of the condition presented by "〜".

【Grammar point】

■ 使われ方

「ようが、ようと」は疑問詞と一緒に使われることが多い。

接続は、動詞の場合「V（意向形）＋が/と」、イ形容詞の場合は「かろうが/かろうと」、名詞とナ形容詞の場合は「であろうが/であろうと」という形になります。

1. いくら運動うんどうしようが、食事しょくじの管理かんりもしないと体重たいじゅうはあまり落おちない。
No matter how much you exercise, if you don't also manage your diet, you won't lose much weight.

2. どんなに痛いたかろうが、人前ひとまえで涙なみだを見みせるべきじゃない。
No matter how much it hurts, you shouldn't show tears in public.

3. たとえ相手あいてでが殺人犯さつじんはんであろうが、私刑しけいというのは許ゆるされない。
Private punishment is not acceptable, even if the other party is a murderer.

■ 「～ようとも」

「～ようとも」も同じ意味で使われます。

4. どんなに泣なき叫さけぼうとも、誰だれも助たすけになんか来きちゃくれない。
No matter how much you cry out, no one will come to your rescue.

接続 formation

V（意向形）が/と
Group1：書こうが、飲もうが
Group2：食べようが、着ようが
Group3：しようが、来ようが

イ形（い） + かろうが/かろうと
（おいしかろうが、安かろうが）

N/ナ形（な） + であろうが/であろうと
（子供であろうが、静かであろうが）
※「であろう」の代わりに「だろう」も使われる。

例文 example sentences

・どこに隠かくれていようが、私わたしが絶対ぜったいに見みつけ出だしてやる。
Wherever he is hiding, I will definitely find him.

・僕ぼくがどんだけがんばろうが、彼かれには到底とうてい勝てないだろう。
I think no matter how hard I try, I will never be able to beat him.

・どんなにつらかろうが、今いまは耐たえなければいけないときだ。
No matter how hard it is, now is the time we must endure.

・親おやにどれだけ反対はんたいされようが、私わたしは自分じぶんの夢ゆめをあきらめないつもりだ。
I am not going to give up on my dream, no matter how much my parents oppose it.

・彼かれはお酒さけを何杯なんばい飲もうが、絶対ぜったいに酔よっぱらわない。
He never gets drunk, no matter how many drinks he has.

・いくら後悔こうかいしようと、過去かこを変かえることはできない。
No matter how much you regret it, you cannot change the past.

・どれだけ批判ひはんされようと、私わたしは自分じぶんの考かんがえを変かえる気きはない。
I have no intention of changing my mind, no matter how much criticism I receive.

・例たとえ最後さいごの一人ひとりになろうと、戦たたかい続つづける覚悟かくごだ。
Even if I am the last man standing, I am prepared to keep fighting.

・どんなに失敗しっぱいしようと死しぬわけじゃないんだから、思おもい切きってやってみればいいじゃん。
No matter how much you fail, you're not going to die, so why not take the plunge?

・僕自身ぼくじしんは何なにを言いわれようとかまわないが、家族かぞくを侮辱ぶじょくする発言はつげんだけは許ゆるせない。
I don't care what people say about me, but I can't tolerate insulting remarks about my family.
