丁度「～」というタイミングで、それを中断させてしまうような出来事や、変化を起こす何かが起こったと言いたいときに使います。

▷ 使われ方
「ところ」には時点を表す用法があり、「V＋ところ＋助詞」は、何かが起こった時点（タイミング）を示すために使われます。多くの場合、その時点で何かが中断されたり、変化が起こったときに使われます。
■ 助詞の使い方
「で、へ/に、を」のどの助詞と使うかは、その文の述語の動詞が何かによって決まります。
「～ところで」
後ろには、「終わる」といった動詞や、「何等かの動作が終わる/動作を中断させる」行為などが来ます。
3. この部屋をだいたい片づけたところで、今日の作業は終わりにしましょう。
Let's finish today's work when we have roughly cleaned up this room.
4. 最後の問題を解いたところで、ちょうど試験終了のベルが鳴った。
Just as I solved the last problem, the bell rang to end the exam.
「～ところに/ところへ」
「行く/来る」「入れる」「通りかかる」「（電話が）かかる」などの動詞と使われます。「ところへ」と「ところに」は同じ意味で使われ、言い換え可能です。
5. 私が一生懸命勉強しているところへ、彼が邪魔しに来たんです。
He came to interrupt me as I was studying hard.
6. 私が帰ろうとしていたところに、緊急の電話がかかってきた。
As I was about to leave, I received an urgent phone call.
「～ところを」
その対象に対して直接的な働きかけが行われるような動詞（殴る、襲う、攻撃するなど）や、見ることに関する動詞（見る、見つかる、目撃する、発見するなど）一緒に使われます。また、「止める、捕まる、助ける」といった動詞やそれに似た意味の動詞とも使われます。
7. その女性は一人で自宅に帰っているところを襲われた。
The woman was attacked as she was returning home alone.
8. 彼が商品を万引きしているところを目撃してしまった。
I witnessed him shoplifting merchandise.
接続 formation
V（辞/た/ている/ていた） + ところ + 助詞
※基本的には動詞に接続しますが、形容詞「よい（いい）」に接続し「よい（いい）ところ」という表現も使われます。
9. あっ、丁度いいところに来た。彼にも意見を聞いてみよう。
