【例文】

40代だいであれ、50代だいであれ、何なにかを始はじめるのに遅おそすぎるということはない。
Whether you are in your 40s or 50s, it is never too late to start something.

【意味・用法】
「A」「B」という例を出しながら、そのどちらの場合でも関係なくという意味で使われます。

【英語】
It is used in the form "A deare B deare ~" to say that "~" is not affected by the " A" or "B" factor, regardless of either case.

【Grammar point】

■ 疑問詞＋であれ

「であれ」は、「AであれBであれ～」と繰り返して使う以外に、「何、誰、どこ、どんな」といった疑問詞とも一緒に使われます。この場合も「～かは関係なく」という意味で使われます。

1. 理由りゆうが何なんであれ、遅刻ちこくしたのが事実じじつならきちんと謝あやまるべきだ。
Whatever the reason, if it is true that you were late, you should apologize properly.

2. ミスをしたのが誰だれであれ、その責任せきにんはリーダーにもある。
Whoever made the mistake, the leader is responsible for that as well.

3. どんな人ひとであれ、得意とくいなことが一ひとつぐらいはあるはずだ。
No matter what kind of person you are, there must be at least one thing you are good at.

接続 formation

N₁ + であれ + N₂ + であれ　
（男であれ、女であれ）
※N₁とN₂には違う名詞が入る。

V（普）+ のであれ + V（普）+ のであれ
※動詞に「の」をつけ名詞化した形であれば使われます。
（続けるのであれ、やめるのであれ）

・プロジェクトを続行ぞっこうするのであれ、中止ちゅうしにするのであれ、決断けつだんは早はやいほうがいい。
Whether we continue or cancel the project, the sooner we make a decision, the better.

・男おとこであれ、女おんなであれ、人ひとは生うまれながらに自由じゆうで、平等びょうとうに権利けんりを持もっている。
Whether male or female, people are born free and have equal rights.

・そのゴルフ大会たいかいは、プロであれ、アマであれ、25歳さい以下いかなら参加さんか資格しかくのある大会たいかいです。
That golf tournament is open to anyone under the age of 25, whether professional or amateur, who is eligible to participate.

・その市しでは、公立こうりつであれ、私立しりつであれ、来年度らいねんどから高校こうこうの授業料じゅぎょうりょうが無料むりょうになるらしい。
In that city, whether public or private, high school tuition will be free starting next year.

・就職しゅうしょくするのであれ、進学しんがくするのであれ、進路しんろを決きめたのならお世話おせわになった人ひとにちゃんと報告ほうこくしたほうがいい。
Whether you are going to work or go on to higher education, if you have decided on a career path, you should properly report it to the people who have helped you.

・サッカーであれ、バスケであれ、球技きゅうぎならだいたい得意とくいです。
I am generally good at ball games, whether it be soccer or basketball.

・英語えいごであれ、中国語ちゅうごくごであれ、語学ごがくをマスターするのにはそれなりに時間じかんがかかる。
Whether it is English or Chinese, it takes a certain amount of time to master a language.

・手紙てがみであれ、電話でんわであれ、自分じぶんの気持きもちをきちんと相手あいてに伝つたえたほうがいいよ。
Whether it's by letter or by phone, you'd better let him/her know exactly how you feel.

・どんな仕事しごとであれ、引ひき受うけた以上いじょうは一生懸命いっしょうけんめいにやるつもりです。
Whatever the job is, I intend to do my very best when I accept it.

・理由りゆうがどうであれ、私わたしはあなたがやったことを許ゆるすことはできない。
Whatever the reason, I cannot forgive you for what you have done.
