【用法】X とはいえ Y
「X」という事実から想定されることに矛盾・相反する内容を「Y」に述べ、「X だが、それでも Y」という意味を表す。

【文法解説】Grammar point :
「X とはいえ Y」の「Y」には、「X」から通常想定されることに相反する内容が来ます。
1. 親とはいえ、自分の息子のことが全部理解できるわけではない。
（≒親でも）
Even though I am a parent, I don't understand everything about my own son.
2. いくらカレーが好きだとはいえ、三日も連続で食べればさすがに飽きる。
（≒いくらカレーが好きでも）
Even though I like curry very much, I get tired of it after eating it for three days in a row.
使われ方①
「X というプラスの事実はあるが、それでも不十分」または、「X というマイナスの事実はあるが、それでも十分」と言いたい時にもよく使われる。
3. うちの息子も高校生になったとはいえ、考え方はまだまだ子供だ。
Although our son is now in high school, he is still a child in his thinking.
4. いくつか解けなかった問題があるとはいえ、合格点は取れていると思う。
Even though there were a few problems I couldn't solve, I think I got a passing grade.
使われ方②
「X」という事情に一定の理解を示しつつも、それでも「Y」だと話し手の意見や批判を述べる場合にもよく使われる。
5. 忙しいとはいえ、電話の一本ぐらい入れる時間はあったでしょ？
Even though you were busy, you still had time to make at least one phone call, didn't you?

例文3のように、接続詞として文頭に来る形でも使われる。
3. 彼の主張していることもわからなくない。とはいえ、彼の案に賛成することは僕には出来ない。

接続 formation
「～とはいえ」は名詞・イ形容詞・ナ形容詞・動詞の普通形に接続します。ナ形容詞と名詞の非過去肯定の形は「だ」がない形にも接続します。

・先週末に最近人気のあの遊園地に行ったのだが、休日とはいえいくら何でも人が多すぎた。
